QR Trading Cards For Windows Phone Apps
A new approach towards promoting Windows Phone and its marketplace apps has been set in place from the Nokia Hong Kong who has managed to put together a couple of app trading cards with the most downloaded and useful apps currently in the marketplace.
The purpose of these QR trading cards is to help salesmen pitch Windows Phone handsets along with the wide range of popular apps that are currently available in the Microsoft Windows Phone marketplace so that users won’t be reluctant in choosing the OS because of the misconception that it doesn’t pack enough quality apps.
These cards can easily be scanned by with Bing vision and in a matter of seconds you’ll have it installed on your handset and bragging about it to your friends.
This is definitely an interesting approach to promote Windows Phone and its handsets, especially since the trading cards have also been divided into categories such as social, games, music and video etc., enabling a more accurate localization of the required apps.
Although these cards cannon be sold, we’re sure that if you’re interested in starting your own collection the guys behind the counter might be persuaded in “borrowing” you a few.
This is an interesting way of kick starting Windows Phone collectibles especially since Windows Phone enthusiasts in China appreciate these rare and somewhat unique items.

Nokia Camera Extension App Demoed
Yesterday we talked about the possibility of Nokia releasing a new camera app that will bring forth a bunch of new features that we have yet to see on Windows Phone handsets.
The Camera Extension app for Nokia’s Lumia series appears to have been demoed in a small video and we have to say that it looks pretty promising.
With smart group shot, rapid multi-shot, panoramic and timer-shot, the Camera Extension app promises an entirely new experience with the Lumia camera.
A quickburst features enables you to take up to 8 photos in a short burst, while the panorama mode stitches together 5 photos.
Nokia is definitely investing a lot in exclusive apps for their Lumia series so that the Windows Phone experience can be as unique as possible and we’re probably going to see even more apps showing up soon.
Although the availability of the app has not yet been revealed, we assume that it’s not going to be a Chinese specific app (as demoed in the video) and that it will be pushed to Lumia Windows Phone handsets around the world.
No launch date has been mentioned until now, but we’re assuming that within the next couple of months we’ll be seeing it live on most Lumia devices.

Nokia Reading Available, But Not in the US
Nokia promised a while back that they’ll be releasing a new app to their Lumia line, which will fill in the gap left by apps like Amazon Kindle that are not available on Windows Phone.
The Nokia Reading app enables Nokia Lumia users to access a large collection of e-books and purchase best sellers in a digital format right on their handset.
While the service has not yet been released globally, some countries have already been given access to the app, except for the U.S.
It could be only a matter of time until Nokia grants access to Nokia Reading to U.S. users as well, but until then you’re more than welcomed to check out the download link below and see if your country made the list.
This territorial division of Nokia Lumia exclusive apps may pass as soon as licensing applications are granted by various countries; otherwise it would really suck to have a Lumia Windows Phone and not be able to use all of its many useful apps.
The app can be downloaded free, but if you’re interested in reading a book you should be ready to pay for it, as only a handful are free of charge and the rest need to be purchased.

Toronto Hosts #SmokedbyWindowsPhone Challenges
The #SmokedbyWindowsPhone Microsoft campaign seems to be expanding outward to Toronto so that the brand awareness can reach Canadian users as well.
With an audience mostly comprised of Blackphone, iPhone and Android users, the #SmokedbyWindowsPhone challenge seems to have attracted people mostly because of the $100 prize which most of them though will easily win.
The guys from MobileSyrup also decided to challenge the Windows Phone device and ended up losing badly in front of everyone.
They managed to shoot a small video on how the competition is taking place in Canada, and from what we can tell, the devices are now placed on a table in a dueling-like position.
It’s great that the Windows Phone challenge is finally reaching Canada and that it’s still being used to promote Redmond’s mobile OS in a head-on competition with other mobile operating systems.
As you can see from the video above, most of the challenges remain the same, meaning that checking the weather and posting photos on your Facebook account are still the preferred challenges that Microsoft uses.

Nokia Prepping Camera Extension App for Lumia Series
The Creative Studio app that Nokia launched a couple of weeks back might not be the only thing that Nokia is cooking in regards to making full use of your handset’s shooter.
During a Nokia “experience day” in Hong Kong, it looks like a Nokia rep revealed that a new Camera Extension app for Lumia devices might be making its way pretty soon.
With features that include panorama shots, smart group capture, burst mode, and self-timer, the soon-to-be-released Lumia exclusive app looks pretty impressive.
Nokia did claim a while back that they’re planning on porting some of the neat features that Symbian handsets had onto Windows Phone devices, and this might be the first step towards achieving that.
It’s common knowledge that Nokia has been making a name for itself by means of neat camera features and the fact that Windows Phone devices have been left out of this development loop only comes to strengthen the idea that this new all might indeed be real.
With the Camera Extension app for Lumia handsets we bet that Nokia will be gaining a lot of love from the community, especially since the previously mentioned features have always been demanded.
We don’t know if the app will be launched globally or if it will simply be a perk in Chinese devices, but we really do home that everyone will be able to make use of it at some point.

Hammering Nails With Nokia Lumia 900
While we know that the Nokia Lumia 900 has been advertised as having the toughest display yet, we were not about to put that to the test with our own handset.
However, it does look like somebody put the Gorilla Glass to the test by hammering a nail and by actually using a hammer and a nail on the display surface.
Luckily, no Lumia 900 handsets were injured during the making of this video and we strongly encourage you not to do this at home if you really care about your device.
While it may look safe of video, your AT&T carrier might not appreciate the fact that you decided to do a little carpenting with your brand new Windows Phone device.
If anything, you might end up buying a new phone altogether and would have proven that the Nokia Lumia 900 can’t really take too much pounding unless it’s in a safe environment.
Anyway, check out the video above because it beautifully demos the fact that Nokia can still make polycarbonate casings and Gorilla Glass smartphones that can keep it together even in case of a zombie apocalypse.

Windows Phone People Hub Now Integrates Twitter Profile
Microsoft has managed to pull another rabbit out of their hat following the silent update featuring off-line Facebook message support, and they’ve now made some modifications to the People Hub.
Now featuring Twitter profile info right into the People Hub Notes section, you’ll now be able to read the Twitter bio of a selected contact.
While this is no way some major update, it does go to prove that Microsoft can still make on-the-fly adjustments to Windows Phone in the cloud, and provide additional features along the way.
The newly added feature is something that most of you might have missed as we were not aware of it in the first place nor did we notice when the update occurred.
It might have something do to with your device automatically syncing with Microsoft’s servers and pulling contact details from Twitter and other social networks, and at the same time adding the new adjustment.
Anyway, it’s definitely a new piece of useful information to have in the People Hub and we’re definitely keeping a eye on other features that might have been added without our knowledge.

Lumia 900 Landing in China in June
The Chinese FCC-like authority (State Radio Regulation Committee, also known as SRRC) has recently approved the Nokia Lumia 900 for Chinese distribution.
The fact that it’s neither a CDMA nor TD-SCDMA handset makes it difficult to predict which carrier will be shelving it, because both China Telecom and China Mobile seem to be out of the picture at this point.
Nokia has really pulled a number on iPhone sales in China because they’ve managed to overthrow iOS sales with the newly launched fleet of Lumia Windows Phone devices.
Considering that they’re also throwing it the Lumia 900 to the already existing Lumia 610, Lumia 710, and Lumia 800, we’re expecting to see some really interesting quarterly figures coming from the Finnish OEM manufacturer.
We don’t know with what price tag will the handset be arriving in China, but we’re assuming that it’s going to be consistent with the pricing in U.S. or Australia.
Of course, some carrier deals will be there to sweeten the deal for those not willing to get the device carrier-free, and we bet that massive sales will be directed towards that particular end.
Having the Nokia Lumia 900 shipped in China, the world’s largest market for smartphones is definitely no small fee from Nokia, especially if they manage to psyche their local community one again.
If you’re from China and you’re reading this, rest assured that the Nokia Lumia 900 will be coming your way sooner that you might think.

HTC Titan II Announced on Telstra – Europe Not on the Waiting List
Everyone in Europe that was hoping to get their hands on the HTC Titan II might have to hold off on that thought because the HTC Titan II will not be available, at least not soon.
Australian carrier Telstra has already announced that they’ll be launching the handset on May 29th at $20/month on the $49 plan, $10/month on the $59 plan & $0 on the $79, $99 & $129 plans.
No pricing for the off-contract version has been revealed yet, but we’re estimating that it should be around $750-$850.
May 29th is just ten days away (from the time of writing) and those of you in Australia can start saving up some money starting now if you want to get your hands on the 16 megapixel Windows Phone handset.
While we’re pretty bummed out that Europe won’t be getting the HTC Titan II now, all that might change as time passes and HTC might think twice about not sharing it with Europeans.
Anyway, we’ll be keeping a close eye on news and rumors involving the HTC Titan II and we’ll keep you posted as soon as we find out more.
